October 2025 - New Couch!

Well, it's been nearly a year and a half but we finally made it back to Maui. Good news: We finally purchased a new couch from Kimo's Furniture in Kahului. It has nice soft fabric (the cushion coverings are removable and can be cleaned as laundry) and a pull-out queen-size memory foam mattress. It's American-made, solid construction, and super comfy. It looks great too!

We also did a number of minor repairs:

  • Fixed the ice maker in the new fridge (purchased earlier this year when the old one died. It would have been nice to be able to repair the old refrigerator, but it takes over a month to get replacement parts on the island, and I had guests coming, so I had to buy a new one.
  • Fixed the sliding screens over the bedroom windows
  • Fixed the loose ramp to the lanai
  • Purchased new cushions for the high-top seats on the lanai (they are on custom order)
  • Re-configured the Spectrum remote to control TV power and soundbar audio
  • Replaced the rusted laundry rack that we tried to paint with Rust-Oleum last trip with a new coated laundry rack
  • Replaced the Tommy Bahama chairs with new chairs.
  • Purchased a new set of ceramic plates and bowls for the kitchen, and ordered new dishwasher (but not microwave) safe melamine plastic plates for the lanai.

We also purchased a privacy shade for the living room. It will be installed in the next month or two and have electric controls to scroll down from the ceiling behind the light soffit that goes along the glass wall. This will allow some light through but enable complete privacy within the unit.

We had the washing machine repaired with a new control panel which was acting up, and replaced the microwave oven whose display was illegible. (It was cheaper and quicker to buy a new one than to have the control board replaced in the existing microwave.)

Highlights from Trip

We spent a lot of time this trip with our friends who have moved full-time to the island.

About

I own a condominium unit in Kihei, Hawaii, on the island of Maui. I know I am fortunate not just own a piece of paradise, but even to visit Paradise on occasion. I love my second island home, and this blog is a record of my experiences both visiting the island of Maui, and owning property there. I hope it will be of interest to visitors both to my unit, and to the island generally.
